How to print
and assemble your kit

Choose the matching paper size, check the scale, and put the costume together.

Check the school assignment

Read the school’s assignment before choosing your kit. Some teachers ask children to use a particular turkey outline, draw every piece by hand, or work with specific materials.

Our costume is made for our turkey. It may not fit a school-provided outline. If the original sheet is required, keep it and use our astronaut as an idea for your child’s own drawing. Check whether printed costume pieces are allowed.

Gather plain printer paper, a printer, scissors, and glue. For the color-it-yourself version, add crayons, colored pencils, or markers. An adult should help with scissors and any small pieces.

Match the paper and print scale

Start with the PDF that matches the paper in your printer. Letter and A4 are separate files; choosing the matching one helps keep the pieces at their intended size.

  1. Save your kit

    Choose your paper size and color version on the free kit page, then download the PDF. If it opens in a browser, use the PDF viewer’s download or save control to keep a copy.

  2. Open the PDF’s print menu

    Print from the PDF viewer, rather than printing the website. Select the same paper size you downloaded, and use portrait orientation.

  3. Choose Actual size or 100%

    Turn off “Fit,” “Fit to page,” or “Shrink to printable area.” Select one page per sheet and single-sided printing. Setting names vary between printers.

  4. Check one sheet before the rest

    Print a page with the 50 mm check line. Measure it with a physical ruler. If the size looks wrong or an edge is clipped, check the paper and scale settings before printing the remaining pages.

Measure the printed PDF

Our print-test target is 49–51 mm for the 50 mm line. This is a target for checking the file on your printer, not a guarantee of your printer’s output.

This on-screen illustration is not a ruler. Measure only the reference printed from the PDF.

Color, cut, and assemble

  1. Color first. If you chose the outline version, decorate while everything is still on the full sheet.
  2. Cut together. Use the solid outer outlines and follow the kit’s piece labels. An adult can handle tricky corners.
  3. Arrange before gluing. Place the costume pieces on the included turkey and check the assembly guide. Try the arrangement before pressing pieces down.
  4. Add a story. Let your child choose colors, invent an astronaut name, or tell you where this turkey is going.

Keep the school’s directions in mind as you add finishing touches. The idea is a project your child can take part in.

Download and printer troubleshooting

The pieces look too small or large.

Confirm that your paper matches the file: Letter or A4. Look for a scale of 100% or Actual size in the PDF print menu. Turn off Fit and multi-page-per-sheet settings, then print the reference line again. If the size is still wrong, try a PDF reader with a visible scale setting.

An edge is missing when I print.

Check the paper size and portrait orientation in both the PDF viewer and printer settings. If the preview still clips part of a piece at 100%, try another printer. Do not trim a missing edge into shape or scale only one sheet: the pieces may no longer fit together.

How do I save the PDF on my phone?

If the PDF opens in a new tab, look for the browser or viewer’s Share, Download, or Save control. On iPhone or iPad, Share → Save to Files is a common route. On Android, use Download or Save and check your Downloads folder. Menus vary by browser. Reopen the saved file before printing.

I don’t have a printer.

Save the PDF for later, or ask a library or print shop whether it can print the file at 100% on the matching paper size; local services may charge. You can also use the astronaut as inspiration to draw a costume directly on an allowed school outline. The downloadable kit itself needs a printer.

Can I print another copy?

Yes. Print again for your own household or classroom, including when a piece gets lost or a first attempt needs another try. There is no account or checkout. See the simple use terms for sharing and redistribution.

The file didn’t download.

Return to the free kit and choose the same paper and color options again. If your browser opens the PDF instead, use its save control. Check your connection and available storage, or try another browser if the file will not open.
